United in the Truth of God

The “cause of truth” (Isaiah 42:3), the “God of truth” (Isaiah 65:16), and doing all things “in truth” (Isaiah 48:1)—these all emphasize the need to be truth-based in order to please God and accomplish anything good in his eyes. And what can bring us closer to his truth in this journey through life than our Savior Jesus Christ: “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13)? That, however, signifies the end of the journey, not the beginning.

Because there exists no real unity outside of God or what is of God, being one with Jesus—who is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6)—sets us on the optimum path to perfection. Says he, “If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31–32). Free, that is, from bondage to sin, ignorance, and a plethora of untruths spread by Satan through every possible platform in our media. And as truth becomes a rarer commodity in the world, those who share the truth find ever greater unity.

Indeed, “how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalms 133:1) more especially when they are “united according to the union required by the law of the celestial kingdom” (Doctrine & Covenants 105:4). Then can they “look forward with one eye, having one faith and one baptism, having their hearts knit together in unity and in love one towards another” (Mosiah 18:21). Outside of such unity, there exist only snares: “Be determined in one mind and in one heart, united in all things, that ye may not come down into captivity” (2 Nephi 1:21).

The truths of God revealed by Isaiah—not just on a surface level but in the many layers of his writings—have indeed created a loving unity among those who search and live by them. The transformation they pass through as they internalize the mysteries of God that Isaiah teaches, in fact, is akin to conversion to the gospel of Jesus Christ but on a deeper level. Among those who are on this journey of searching and understanding Isaiah’s words, there is a visible increase of unity and love one towards another as in them they find a refuge from the vicissitudes of life.
