When Isaiah says, “They are not a discerning people. Therefore their Maker shows them no mercy; he who formed them favors them not” (Isaiah 27:11), he is speaking of the aftermath of God’s people’s addictions to idols or the things of this world. Inevitably—with or without their knowing—opportunistic forces step into the vacuum created by their waning faith. Traditional Christian nations may thus abruptly turn from a religion grounded in faith in Jesus Christ—which for centuries formed the backbone of their social and moral fabric—to a hollow secularism.
Displacing God in this secular society are gods of this world—human actors of the godless kind who all too easily act the part of benevolent masters. You can tell who they are by their touting a false “democracy,” a front not just for tolerating immorality but for institutionalizing perversion. Edicts and ideologies spawned by these nonbelievers, such as “equity” for all and “justice” for noncompliants, issue from the mire of their warped minds. With pomp and ceremony—attired in robes of perfidy, or none at all—they perform rites mocking God and trampling on his truth.
The dystopia they want for humanity abrogates all that is of the true God, the Maker of heaven and earth and Savior of mankind. The first principle of human existence—the chance to choose for oneself—is turned on its head as citizens become subject to their laws of tyranny. Blessings that pertain to God covenants, such as lands of inheritance, offspring, and divine protection, are supplanted by no private ownership and dictates about who will or will not live. Meanwhile, as the gods of this new world, they themselves live in unfettered luxury and carnal gratification.
But there is a problem with this picture that those who are past perceiving correct principles will never learn. They may deny the existence of God—even as they recreate perverted versions of his sacred rituals and ordinances—but God is still very much a presence in their lives. This is his world, not theirs; and these are his children, not their own. Even as Satan tries to replicate on the earth his hellish order of the netherworld, the curses of the covenants God made with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and his people Israel will pursue these perverse ideologues until they become extinct.
