As a pivot point on Isaiah’s spiritual ladder, the Jacob/Israel level consists of people in the world who believe in the true God—the God of Israel—but who are ambivalent about repenting of transgressions. That includes persons who go through the motions of religious worship but who don’t know what it is they need to repent of—things such as sports and media addictions, love of material things, self-deception, willing ignorance, blindness to truth, lack of integrity, etc.
Those on the next highest level—Zion/Jerusalem—on the other hand, were people in the Jacob/Israel category who repented of transgressions until they gained a remission of their sins through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The law they keep are the terms of the Sinai Covenant, a collective covenant that operates to this day. Its terms are God’s commandments that anciently comprised the Law of Moses but today form the basic principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Alternatively, people who pivot down the spiritual ladder end up in the Babylon and Perdition categories. Choosing evil rather than good, they suffer the consequences by being de-created from what they once were. While the Babylon category consists of persons who knowingly break divine or universal laws, the Perdition category consists of murderers and orchestrators of evil. Having passed a spiritual point of no return, the latter suffer spiritual as well as physical death.
People who ascend from Zion/Jerusalem to the level of Sons/Servants are reborn spiritually as they keep the terms of the Davidic Covenant—God’s covenant with King David and his heirs. Its law consists of answering to God for the transgressions of those to whom they minister—family, kindreds, friends—to merit their physical protection in the face of a mortal threat. Suffering a descent phase of trials and tribulations, God re-creates them spiritually in their ascent phase.
Spiritual rebirth and re-creation under the terms of the Davidic Covenant continues in the seraph category—that of angelic emissaries—but on a higher level. The higher law they keep consists of offering of their whole souls and all that they are to the Most High God to serve him only. Their ministry extends to nations, kindreds, tongues, and peoples and is characterized by power over the elements. They become gods in their own right as they assume God’s divine attributes.
