- Do as Jacob says, “set it aside, supposing they know of themselves” (2 Nephi 9:28).
- Use them as a smorgasbord from which to select what appeals and reject what doesn’t.
- Use them as a prooftext to “prove” that a point you are making is supported by Isaiah.
- Assume there is just one interpretation, historical or end-time, not both simultaneously.
- Put their own spin on Isaiah’s words, creating “precepts of men” that void the meaning.
- Look beyond the mark, missing the plain meaning, not believing what they actually say.
- Appropriate Isaiah’s words in support of pursuing some personal or narcissistic agenda.
