  1. Do as Jacob says, “set it aside, supposing they know of themselves” (2 Nephi 9:28).
  2. Use them as a smorgasbord from which to select what appeals and reject what doesn’t.
  3. Use them as a prooftext to “prove” that a point you are making is supported by Isaiah.
  4. Assume there is just one interpretation, historical or end-time, not both simultaneously.
  5. Put their own spin on Isaiah’s words, creating “precepts of men” that void the meaning.
  6. Look beyond the mark, missing the plain meaning, not believing what they actually say.
  7. Appropriate Isaiah’s words in support of pursuing some personal or narcissistic agenda.
